Shochu Cocktail – Oolong-hai

Oolong-hai

Tea is great, but did you know you can make it better by adding alcohol? Oolong-hai is alcoholic oolong tea that is popular in many izakaya restaurants. It uses a mild shochu variety into the mix and mugi shochu is usually recommended in order to have a balanced flavour. With a slightly more delicate flavour compared to the usual highball, this drink can be easily replicated at home or anywhere.

What you will need

A highball glass, shochu, oolong tea (make your own freshly brewed batch for that extra oomph)

Ingredients

  • 6 parts oolong tea (can be substitute with sencha, or green tea)
  • 4 parts shochu (mugi shochu recommended)
  • Ice

Instructions

  1. Fill a highball glass with ice to the rim.
  2. Pour shochu according to your preference (make it as boozy as you want!).
  3. Add oolong tea.
  4. Stir and enjoy!

The best part of making the oolong-hai yourself is that you are able to make additions and substitutions according to your taste! Substitute oolong tea for sencha and you would have sencha-hai.
